Birthday Boy

Finding a reliable person or company to work on your house isn't always easy.  Luckily, the Microcosm is in good hands.  The exterior siding project is still under way.  There are three guys on the job and they're great to have around.  Lunch is still a daily event and we do special occasions as well.  Johnie had a birthday, so we provided a cake and had a small celebration.

On the menu: turkey sausage and peppers and a side salad, lemonade and birthday cake.  There is a decent amount of shopping and prep work each day.  Lunch is based on what's on sale or available for a good price.  On the whole, shopping, prepping, eating and cleaning up is about a two and a half hour proposition.  It is worth it because it keeps the guys at the house, and they appreciate it.  We never have a problem when we need a job done -- they are happy to accommodate us.  They have been the go-to guys for all major projects.

Teddy loves the attention she gets and it's fun to be able to make her part of the process.  She's always willing to participate and doesn't mind dressing up for the day.  The boys loved her pictures so much, that they posted her on their Facebook page and got lots and lots of likes.  Having all the activity helps tire her out to. So, everybody wins.

    1. The non-corporate/stay-at-home life give us great opportunities to do fun things for others, for sure! Teddy thanks you for the compliment...

  2. Awwww... you know, I think I might hate it less to have people work on the house if they were people I actually knew. The way it seems to work around here is that the company sends out a person to meet with you and go over everything, but then you never see that person again, and the people who come to the house to do the actual work don't speak any English. I don't have anything against immigrants, mind you, and if they're from Spanish speaking countries it sometimes gives me a chance to practice my Spanish - but I just always feel like there's a bit of a gap in communications between the people you sign the contract with and the people who actually do the work.

    1. It's nice that although the project itself is stressful for me on account of how much it is costing, cooking for them is really fun. It helps *me* a lot to be able to do this!

    1. The sure way to get her lazy dog butt off the bed each day is to announce "the boys are here!" I think she will miss them once this is done.
