Shampoo Stock-Up

Every bargain hunter/frugalista has his or her own way to rationalize either a big or surplus purchase.  Whether buying expensively or inexpensively, anything that might be seen as excessive is sure to require a few "tests" to determine if it's a yes or no.  A previous post on the well- stocked HBA closet in our little world surely shows no lack in the shampoo/conditioner department.  The test, therefore was to meet the criteria to justify the quantity.  Do you do that?  Do you have tests for purchasing?  It sounds better to refer to that as a standard.

The two standards applied for deciding to by eleven tubes of shampoo/conditioner was price and packaging.   Dollar Tree is a great store for cheap and sensible products.  However, there are serendipity higher end products to be found.  They generally won't show up in any circular, and are just a lucky find.  This week, the product was Revlon Colorsilk shampoos and conditioners.  These are for color treated hair, and geared towards hues.  The average retail per tube, is over seven bucks.  At a dollar each, these were a steal.

Not having colored hair should not preclude this kind of purchase.  Formulas to retain color are gentle and generally cost more because of the ingredients.  Having red hair provides for a little latitude in the color formulation.  There was Brave Red in the shampoo, but no conditioner.  There was both shampoo and conditioner in glowing blond.  Having a lighter shade of red hair, means both should be just fine.  While there were brunette and black varieties, those would probably not be a good match.

Another standard for the packaging evaluation, is that these tubes will be perfect for a gym bag.   Although pop tops are generally dangerous, they can be taped shut with duct tape.

So, those were the two tests:  cost savings (amounted to six bucks per tube for a total savings of $66), and packaging (tape closed for spill/leak proofing).

Not sure if all DTs have this product, but it's worth a look.  Do you have a criteria that you follow, and would you have made this purchase?
