Laundry Sponges

This is another post about sponges... hopefully the last!  It's an idea found on Pintrest and something that's been used for the past month at the Microcosm.  We've decided the idea is a keeper.

All that's involved, is buying a plastic container, cheap cellulose sponges, and some fabric softener.  Cut the sponges so they fit in the container.  Mix equal parts water and fabric softener.  For this batch we used 1.5 cups of each.  Pour it into the container, mix well, then put in the sponges.  We had extra lavender from our garden, so a few sprigs are in there too.

Each time we dry a load of laundry that we want to soften, we grab a sponge from the container, wring it out, then toss it in the dryer.  Once everything's dry, it goes back into the container.  It will soak up the liquid again.  Rotating the sponges is a bit easier when there are more color varieties, but we still manage to do OK.  Softening with the sponges in the dryer uses less softener than pouring the liquid into the wash.  We are also not tossing out dryer sheets anymore.

This works really well and is worth trying if you want to save a few pennies.
