Scrub the Pup

A self-clean dog cleaning business opened up near the Microcosm over a year ago and we just got around to trying it out a few weeks ago.  A full bath, comb out and coat blow-out took about two hours and cost $13.  This place has no time limit and provides unlimited shampoo, leave-in conditioner, micro-fiber cloths and towels.  The bath is open on three sides so it was not hard to spray and later every nook and cranny.

The best part about the self-serve set up was access to the professional blower.  Washing, rinsing, combing and towel drying is all well and good, but a high velocity pet drier blows out the loose undercoat that can hang on to moisture and almost defeat the purpose of the bath.  Many years ago, a grooming friend provided valuable lessons on bathing, combing and drying.  This DIY thing worked out very well.  Teddy hated every minute of it (she's not a fan of baths).

The experience tired the girl out but left her very clean.  This got us through a few more weeks before an actual clip.  We tried the shop for that but won't be going back.  The price for a clip was outrageous.  Just the bath and blow-out that I did for only $13 would cost $70 for the groomer to do.  That was the price I was quoted but the person neglected to mention that our clip was an extra $20.  The groomer we usually use just charges $70 for it all.  So, I guess we'll just use this neighborhood spot for our DIY baths.  Teddy's not too happy about that...

  1. A lot of pet stores here are going to those type of facilities, great if you have a big dog. I am so thankful that we have a utility sink that is Buddy-sized. Because he sleeps with us he gets a bath every single week - we use baby shampoo and dove conditioner and it leaves his hair nice (poodles tangle so easy you have to brush their ears almost daily). In the summer we try and line up beach day with bath day. I don't think there is a dog alive that loves baths though

    1. The big thing for me, was the high velocity dryer. Goldens have a double coat and a good blast is the best way to get rid of it. The next dog is going to be a lot smaller!

Our "city" groomer (who we'll be going back to) says that for DIY @ home, baby shampoo is the way to go.

  2. Poor guy. I only seen one dog who liked to bath, or lease he was all behave.
Wishing you a good and happy 2019

    1. Happy 2019 to you! It amazes me how much she hates bathing because otherwise, she is all about water and getting wet!
