Prior to retirement, keeping up with laundry was a tough task. Now wash days are pretty regular, with designated days. Linens in the second bedroom (pictured here) are done every Thursday. If Thursday is too busy, then the task is pushed to Friday. But those sheets are washed once per week.
Bathroom towels are washed every other to every third day. This is a particularly nice perk of retirement. During the dual-career years, they were done once per week to ten days. The hand towel by the sink would get pretty stinky -- is that shameful to admit or what? Well, the sink would be gross too, as the bathroom got cleaned less than once per week -- as opposed to every other day now.
Having fresh, clean bath towels is one of the best perks of having someone home who can keep up with laundry. Even the most luxurious towels suck if they aren't clean. It's pretty simple to just gather up the towels and throw them in any time a load is being done.
The "big" bed is stripped and the sheets are laundered on either Monday or Tuesday. The bed spread is done every other week. This is the bed the dog loves to hang out on. There are actually two spreads on this bed. The under-layer is a matelasse spread that gets washed once per month. It serves the purpose of a winter blanket. It was a huge bargain find on clearance for thirty-two bucks. It's a Linea Casa and 100% cotton. All of our linens are 100% cotton and were bargain finds. Just because something was inexpensive, doesn't mean it shouldn't be cared for.
Regular washing is one of the best ways to take care of your linens -- and yourself!

I love clean fresh linens too. Hard to keep up when you have a dog. I use a twin sheet to cover our bed. It doesn't add more heat and it's easy to clean.
ReplyDeleteWe did that when we had the white dog. I should probably go back to doing that. Thanks for the reminder!
