Splurge for The Man

The Big Guy has a blue collar job, which means he wears jeans, work-shirts, steel toe boots and the like most days.  That's why it's nice to give him some finer things for his time off the clock.  Scrupulous bargain hunting makes this possible.  This green sweater was found while out on a mission to find sweatshirts without hoods -- a near impossible feat these days.  When the sweater was spied on a clearance rack, alone among items priced $10 and $12.99, without a tag of any sort, it was snatched up in a hurry.

The piece is 100% two ply cashmere and was in fine condition.  There wasn't another to be found anywhere and the cashier was willing to sell it for ten bucks.  That's a score for sure!   While he won't wear it a lot, it will be nice for him to have for social time.

This watch was a bargain for sure.  We saw them on our cruise for hundreds of dollars.  This particular watch was retailing for between $300 - $500.  It's an Invicta, which is a popular brand on cruise ships.  This Speedway model was found on clearance through a television/web-based retailer -- evine.com.  On clearance, it was $59.  Most watches are not big enough for TBG, but this brand is made large.  A local jeweler removed a link for ten bucks.  With tax, shipping, handling and the link removal, this time-piece cost about eighty bucks.  Best of all, it's a top-quality watch, water-resistant to two hundred feet, with 60 minute/hour/second functions.  Watches like this can also be found on Amazon, so if you are ever tempted to  purchase one on a cruise, either do it before you go or after you get home.  There are more affordable sources!

It's far easier to find fashion bargains for ladies --  but it's always worth it to keep an eye out for your fella.  Great deals like this are worth the effort!

  2. Yes, never buy anything on a cruise ship - always the most expensive. People tend to lose their minds (and their credit cards) on them

    1. Mine came from a deep clearance rack. But it ended up in a thrift store too... I'm too big to wear it -- but it did do me justice for a couple of Halloweens too!

  4. Nice sweater with a very nice color. Whenever I am in the US, I love to raid bargain racks. My favorite places are Marshalls and TJ Maxx. Oh and BTW, I tried your baked eggplant parm. It turned out very tasty. Thank you! I do get inspired by most of what you cook.

    1. Thank you for the kind words! The place I bought this sweater at mostly sells coats. Not only did I find this, but a ten dollar Calvin Klein cocktail dress. It's not somewhere we live close to, so I generally only go when I meet a particular friend for breakfast. I have to discipline myself not to go to JTM or M's because I'd go every week. Love them too -- especially those red price tags!
