The girlie wears a Deadpool bandanna for her oncologist visit because DP is the patron anti-hero of cancer! Her vet and the staff thinks this is cool.
We thought she'd put on weight -- but it just looks that way because her coat has grown in very thick. Don't tell her, but she's getting a clip next week so we'll be ready for St. Pats Day.
She weighs the same as last month. Her glands vary a milometer in size up/down which is no big deal. Her blood values are nearly the same. A slight increase in her lymphocytes was of no concern.
Her breeder, a vet tech, has gone over her file and agrees that she's doing well and that we should skip heart-worm meds because her flea preventive addresses mosquitoes -- which is how the parasite is transmitted. She advised that even if she acquired the parasite (which is a low risk in our area), the condition would take four or five years to progress to something serious. Teddy is 11 and our goal is to make it another two years or more. Removing one source of chemicals/meds will probably help her more than preventing something she has little or no chance of becoming afflicted with.
The vet also advised if we don't see big changes to her blood profile and her glands don't all of the sudden start increasing in size, there is chance we may never reach the point of needing chemotherapy. This is our incentive to keep on with healthy food, supplements, and plenty of oxygenating exercise.
Even though we are just three months post-diagnosis, we are feeling good about her health. Thanks to all who care and send prayers!

Sweet girl! Thanks for the update. I hope all continues to go well.
ReplyDeleteI'll be satisfied if we are able to maintain this state. I try not to freak out when I feel her glands, but I just need to get used to them.
DeleteThat sounds very positive! Sending lots of love to Teddy and both her loving parents! xxx
ReplyDeleteThanks Vix!
DeleteGreat news! She is such a sweet baby.
ReplyDeleteShe is my sweet girl -- I've had other sweet dogs, but she really is the most loving -- and perpetually unaware and unconcerned that she causes us any worry!
DeleteThat is good news - such a beautiful fur baby
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how much our emotional well-being is tied up with our pets. I am pretty manic about taking care of her and just knowing that we are doing it right helps a lot!
DeleteSuch good news! I'm happy for all of you!!
