I love thrifting serving pieces and am forever on the lookout for anything I can use as both a gift and food carrier. Rather than bringing my own serving dish to a pot luck and then having to either hope it gets returned, or forcing the host to clean it for me, I prefer to bring something I can leave behind. Plastic and paper is a last resort as far as I am concerned. Who needs to add to a landfill when there are more stylish and eco-conscious options at garage sales and thrift stores. These three plates are the perfect case in point.
This deer plate is perfect for anyone who hunts. As a matter of fact, it's already been given. One of the contracting boys loved it. After they completed the utility sink and pipe repair job, I told them I wanted to contribute to their hunting camp and gave them the plate. Johnie appreciated and was really happy about it. We have Canadian friends and if you know anyone from up North (I know of a few blog followers who will likely agree), you know that Canadians love Moose. This plate will be brought to the next Canadian hosted potluck we attend. I know it will be well loved in its next home.
Of course, we also have a friend who fishes. His wife is a lover of thrifted, garage, and estate sale finds. In fact we "hunt" together quite often. I know they will really like this plate and I will bring it over the next time I am invited for dinner.
Each plate set me back 99 cents. That is less than I would pay for a melamine dish at a discount store. Hey, it's even cheaper than Dollar Tree. Best of all, these are unique and good looking -- plus they are sustainable. I'd call that a Ceramic Success!
