Earrings Save the Day!

As we were getting dressed to attend my brother in law's funeral service, TBG realized that he'd packed a shirt that required cuff links, but hadn't actually packed any.  Our rather casual host (TBG's brother in law) did not have any to lend.  Lucky for him that his wife is a jewelry slut! Since we both packed so hastily, we found that some shopping was required once it became evident we would be staying for a week and participating in services.  A trip to the Glen Falls Factory Outlets sure was frustrating -- the weather was horrible and the place over-run with shoppers. While I did not find what I was looking for at my first stop, they did have fashion jewelry on sale.  A set of three earrings caught my eye.  As it turned out, this was a fortuitous purchase as I was able to substitute a large post style bauble for cuff links.

Now I don't normally favor the posts that have big plastic stabilizers, but it was a good thing they did!  That was what made it possible for me to secure his cuffs.  We just had to make sure he didn't tug on them too much.  As it turned out, they worked just fine.  And now I have jewelry to bring on vacation or to wear to the pool (I no longer want to risk losing the good stuff!).  They are hypoallergenic too.

I wore the flower configuration with a white dress for the funeral because I didn't want to be drab. I wore a black dress for the wake with gold earrings I'd packed.  The cheap pair matched a white pearl necklace and played off a black flower pattern for the jacket.  I picked the set of earrings because I knew they would go nicely with a ring I'd brought along.  Best of all, this impulse purchase ended up being a lifesaver!

  1. That was lucky! I love earrings, but need a clip-on. I end up converting my earrings.

    1. I had some old costume earrings and wanted them converted to posts, but I was told if they weren't sliver or gold, it couldn't be done. Wearing them over pierced holes is a bit uncomfortable. Is it easy for you to convert yours?

    2. Absolutely easy. Mine are not silver or gold, just gold tone. Some of the silver tone are silver. I never have one bit of trouble converting them. Why did the person say that? I had my ears pierced about 43 years ago and always had infections and bleeding. I finally gave up and wear clip on. They stay infected still.
